In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly shapes healthcare processes, maintaining accurate patient identity management is essential for quality care and safety. This session provides a comprehensive approach to integrating AI and human oversight within an AI Governance Framework, exploring the nuances of patient identification and matching through advanced algorithms and human intervention. Participants will gain insight into how deterministic, rules-based, and probabilistic algorithms function within enterprise master person index (EMPI) systems, and why Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) strategies are critical for error reduction. Through a focus on practical applications and data validation tools, attendees will learn actionable strategies to improve data quality, mitigate risks, and optimize AI integration in healthcare settings.

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in healthcare present challenges affecting patient care, compliance, and operations. This presentation explores best practices for managing the Master Patient/Person Index during M&A data conversion activities including pre-conversion planning, testing, go-live strategies, and ongoing maintenance.
In addition to best practices, the presentation will cover national efforts to improve patient matching and MPI management. Attendees will learn how to identify potential data integrity issues, implement proactive solutions, and leverage industry standards like the AHIMA Naming Policy and Project US@ to ensure accurate and efficient data integration during M&A.

- Identify common patient identity challenges that arise during healthcare mergers and acquisitions, and explain their impact on data integrity, compliance, and patient care.
- Apply best practices for pre-conversion planning, data testing, and go-live execution to support accurate MPI management during M&A transitions.
