Sherri Ward

Sherri Ward has been in the coding field for over 25 years.  After graduating from the Medical College of Georgia, she took an inpatient coding position in Savannah, Georgia.  Since that time, she has enjoyed many positions throughout the country.  She has had experiences in coding, in auditing, in education, and in management.  She has worked both for hospitals as well as consulting services throughout the nation.

Educating coders is Sherri’s passion.  Transitioning hospital-based clinics to HIM coders has been one of the most rewarding projects that she has taken on.  Leading her organization through the implementation of ICD-10 was another very challenging project that she thoroughly enjoyed.

Sherri has had the honor of previously serving on the US News and World Report Pediatric Cancer Work Group and the Data Quality Committee for CHIMA.  She also had the distinction of participating in Optum’s NLP Innovation Summit, in which her concept to improve their CDI module took first place.  Sherri’s favorite thing about coding is that one is always learning!

When Sherri isn’t working, she enjoys hiking with her two dogs on any of the many beautiful trails in Colorado or reading a good book!
