Rebecca Harmon returned to a leadership role in a traditional Health Information Management (HIM) setting several years ago after spending many years as an HIM Educator. She has served as the Chief (Director) of Health Information Management Services for the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since 2014 where she leads a 50-person team that serves Veterans across the 3-state region of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Ms. Harmon began her career with a tour of duty in the United States Navy where she trained and served as a Hospital Corpsman and Medical Laboratory Technician. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon and in addition to her leadership role in Health Information Management, has enjoyed roles as a Business Analyst, Community College Dean, University faculty, program/project manager, and consultant. Rebecca is a popular and engaging speaker at national, state and local HIM events and in 2018 she was recognized as the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Health Information Management Professional of the Year at the national (AHIMA) conference in Miami, Florida.
