Dr. Melissa Koehler, DHA, MBA, RHIA, CHDA, CDIP, CCS, CCS-P, CCDS, CRCR, is a Health Information Management professional with an extensive career in various facility coding, auditing, and leadership roles. She is the Director of Hospital-Based Coding Operations and Quality for Inova Health System, headquartered in Northern Virginia. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAQH). Melissa is the president of the Tennessee Health Information Management Association (THIMA) and past president of KAHIMA. She has also volunteered for and chaired several committees at the state and national levels of AHIMA and mentored students and new graduates in the HIM profession.
She completed her Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology at Walter’s State Community College, earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management from The College of Saint Scholastica, a Master of Business Administration from Tusculum University, and a doctoral degree in healthcare administration from the Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Dr. Koehler is currently serving a two-year term as an appointed American Hospital Association’s Coding Clinic Editorial Advisory Board member and is an adjunct instructor at Franklin University.
