Kelly Fast, MS, RHIA, has been an HIM educator for 9 years. She has been working in some capacity in HIM since 1978, starting out in medical transcription. She holds a master’s degree in Health Information Management from College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She previously was a program director of Health Information Management at the associate level at Indiana Tech in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Since 2014, she has been assistant professor, and now associate professor of HIM at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. She has been coordinator of HIM since 2019. She is Director of Education for Pony Express Health Information Management Association, and Director of Advocacy for Missouri Health Information Management Association. She is active in the State Advocacy Leader’s group with AHIMA. She and her retired husband, Roger, live in The Villages, FL. They have two sons and one grandson, Simon.
