Janet Pendergrass, CCS


Janet currently works for R1 RCM inc. as an Inpatient coding quality reviewer. Reviewing coded encounters for accuracy and providing feedback and education when needed.  Janet also trains new incoming coding staff. She began working in health care as a nurse’s aid.  After college she became a Certified Medical Assistant working at an urgent care clinic for 4 years.  In 1994 she began working in medical records learning all aspects of medical records working assembly analysis, census and physician suspension and release of information. Janet began her coding career in 1996 starting out with ancillary and moving up to ED, same day surgery and in 2001 moved to inpatient coding. Janet has been a member of AHIMA since 2001 and holds the CCS credential. Janet has participated in UHIMA serving as Acute Care director previously and has presented several coding round table presentations. Janet’s hobbies include spending time in the outdoors with family and friends 4 wheeling, participating in the daughters of Utah Pioneers and volunteering in the local Pioneer Museum and quilting.  Spending time with her husband Chuck and her two children Daniel and Jessica along with her three grandchildren is her favorite thing to do.
