Overview:
HIM professionals will soon be in the middle of significant industry change. CMS and ONC regulations will require healthcare organizations to provide electronic healthcare information (EHI) to patients and other healthcare providers commencing January 2021. Reluctant EHR vendors must open their systems to external queries or be subject to substantial fines as part of new “anti-blocking” regulations.
This fundamental industry change intends to improve patient care and to give patients more choices in providers. Providers will be required to upgrade EHRs and open up their systems to external queries on qualified healthcare information networks (QHINs). Patients will be able to download their medical records directly to their smartphones and shop for medical services online. Also, one can imagine that healthcare providers may find opportunities to find new patients on these QHINs too.
In fact, medical record sharing and the QHIN-based applications could trigger a new wave of technology and services innovation similar to that of World Wide Web. Who can remember life before online shopping, Internet search, auction sites, music subscriptions, grocery delivery, and other indispensable services? This webinar will discuss the future for healthcare providers, healthcare IT vendors, and patients as the new CMS and ONC regulations take effect.
