ICD-10-CM Code Updates (2 CEUs)
Domain I. Data Structure, Content, and Information Governance
ICD-10-CM has 165 new codes, 22 code revisions and 30 deleted codes in 16 chapters. Guideline changes will be highlighted, In addition to the discussion about the new codes, helpful clinical detail will be provided using the Coordination & Maintenance Committee meeting materials. In addition to chapter-specific codes, eleven new codes were added for Social Determinates of Health and are in the Z55-Z65 code block: Persons with potential health hazards related to socioeconomic and psychosocial circumstances. Also code U09.9 was added by the World Health Organization (WHO), for conditions that are identified as long-term effects of COVID-19 infections. These conditions can range from symptoms such as loss of smell or taste, or include other conditions, such as chronic respiratory failure. The same ICD-10 code is being added to ICD-10-CM.
ICD-10-PCS Code Updates (2 CEUs)
Domain I. Data Structure, Content, and Information Governance
ICD-10-PCS has 191 new codes, 62 revised titles and 107 deleted codes with a total of 78,220 codes. The changes to the official guidelines will be discussed and a review of all new codes. In addition, key updates to ICD-10-PCS will be explored including clinical detail about new procedures. Some of the key changes in the Medical and Surgical section are:
- Codes in the 02V table for Restriction
- Codes are in the 031 table by adding the body part value for brachial artery for Bypass of the Upper arteries
- Codes by adding a body part value for bone marrow in the 07D Extraction
- Codes in the 06L table by adding approach values 7 and 8 to the body part value of other vein
- Codes in the 0F8 table for liver body parts
- Codes in table 0K8 by adding approach values 7 and 8 for the body part value for tongue, palate, pharynx muscle
- Codes in the Insertion table for Head and Facial Bones with device value for Infusion device into the skull body part
- Codes added to the 0PS and two codes added to the 0QS tables for Reposition of the Upper and Lower Bones
- Codes in the 0QB table Excision of Lower Bones, adding qualifier value 2 Sesamoid Bone(s) 1st Toe, for the body part values N Metatarsal, Right and P Metatarsal, Left
IPPS & MS-DRG Updates (1 CEU)
Domain I. Data Structure, Content, and Information Governance
Released on August 2, 2021, and published in the Federal Register on August 13, 2021, payments to hospitals will increase by about 2.5%, resulting approximately $2.3 billion in additional reimbursement for inpatient services. The changes also include the extension of the New COVID-19 Treatments Add-on Payment (NCTAP).
Updates to MS-DRGs as described by MDC will be presented and a review of MS-DRGs 981-983, Extensive OR Procedures Unrelated to Principal Diagnosis and 987-989, Non-Extensive OR Procedures Unrelated to Principal Diagnosis will be included. Also covered are redesignations of OR Procedures to Non-OR Procedures, as well as Non-OR Procedures to OR Procedures. With the new codes, comes changes to the MCC and CC lists, and additions and deletions will be addressed. The change to the MCE will be discussed, and a significant change has been made for an MCE Edit for Unspecified Codes. Add-on payments will also be discussed.
