This 3-part webinar series will offer a hands-on experience analyzing healthcare data using MS Excel. Attendees will learn how to define a healthcare business problem and develop effective solutions utilizing MS Excel functions and graphical capabilities.  Attendees can expect to gain experience in data exploration, summarization and visualization. Specifically, the workshop will prepare attendees to use Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, and various formulas for analyzing medical practice data and create effective reports for operational and financial insights.

Overview:

This 3-part webinar series will offer a hands-on experience analyzing healthcare data using MS Excel. Attendees will learn how to define a healthcare business problem and develop effective solutions utilizing MS Excel functions and graphical capabilities.  Attendees can expect to gain experience in data exploration, summarization and visualization. Specifically, the workshop will prepare attendees to use Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, and various formulas for analyzing medical practice data and create effective reports for operational and financial insights. The dataset that will be used includes patient information on demographics, diagnoses, medication, procedures, allergies, among other clinical information.   At the conclusion of the workshop attendees will have greater confidence analyzing healthcare data with cost-effective tools to transition data into information for key stakeholders.

The webinar series will provide attendees with knowledge to:

  • Produce Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts to analyze medical practice data
  • Use formulas to assist in data analysis
  • Discover how MS Excel can be leveraged for creating meaningful operational and financial insights

David Marc

David Marc is an assistant professor and the health informatics graduate program director at the College of St. Scholastica. Currently, Dr. Marc teaches courses on the foundations of health informatics, human factors and usability assessment, data analytics, and research design. Dr. Marc has a master’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Minnesota and a PhD in health informatics also from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Marc also holds a certification as a health data analyst (CHDA). Currently, Dr. Marc serves as the chair of the AHIMA foundation research network, a current presenter for the AHIMA faculty development regional meetings, and an instructor for the CHDA exam prep workshops. Dr. Marc also serves on the Minnesota HIMSS board as the chair of student affairs and is the chair for the AMIA education taskforce. Dr. Marc has extensive experience working with large healthcare datasets and analytic procedures. Dr. Marc co-edited the textbook Data Analytics in Healthcare Research: Tools and Strategies through AHIMA press, which offers a unique opportunity to experience big data from a hands-on perspective using open source tools and data.
