A three-part webinar series will offer members an opportunity to learn how to analyze healthcare data using MS Excel and the open-source data analytics software platform, R. The webinar will include tutorials on how to carry out basic and advanced analytical techniques including data acquisition, data summaries, data preparation, and data visualization. Each webinar is live and will run 1-hr in length and will be recorded for playback up to 90 days after the live event.

David Marc is an assistant professor and the health informatics graduate program director at the College of St. Scholastica. Currently, Dr. Marc teaches courses on the foundations of health informatics, human factors and usability assessment, data analytics, and research design. Dr. Marc has a master’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Minnesota and a PhD in health informatics also from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Marc also holds a certification as a health data analyst (CHDA). Currently, Dr. Marc serves as the chair of the AHIMA foundation research network, a current presenter for the AHIMA faculty development regional meetings, and an instructor for the CHDA exam prep workshops. Dr. Marc also serves on the Minnesota HIMSS board as the chair of student affairs and is the chair for the AMIA education taskforce. Dr. Marc has extensive experience working with large healthcare datasets and analytic procedures. Recently, Dr. Marc co-editing the textbook Data Analytics in Healthcare Research: Tools and Strategies through AHIMA press, which offers a unique opportunity to experience big data from a hands-on perspective using open source tools and data.
