2020 CoC Standards: your choice
Cindy Stern, BSN

Discuss compliance requirements for the 2020 CoC standards for cancer program accreditation. Identify documents that must be submitted with the Pre-Review Questionnaire (previously referred to as the “SAR”). Describe a strategy for achieving compliance for at least 2 revised and/or newly de-veloped 2020 standards for Cancer Program Accreditation.

Cindy Stern is the Senior Administrator of Penn Cancer Network. She holds a collaborative and consultative role for community-based institutions, who are contractually affiliated with a NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center; the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Cindy is also an Independent Consultant whose specialty is to conduct Pre-accreditation gap analysis for cancer programs seeking initial or renewed cancer program accreditation through the American College of Surgeons Commission of Cancer.

Cindy retains active memberships in the Oncology Nursing Society, Society of Clinical Research Associates and Association of Community Cancer Centers. She has had many oncology publications through the years.

Cindy will always agree when asked by PACR to present at our Annual Meetings. We appreciate the many years of experience that she shares with us. Her presentations on CoC Standards have always been a draw for our members. We are sure you will not be disappointed with this year’s presentation.
Cancer Through the Lens of COVID-19
Christi Cox, BS, RHIA, CTR

Reinforce 2018 Grade changes. Review Guidelines for assigning Grade (general, Clinical, Pathologic, and Post-Therapy). Boost “Grade confidence” through examples and case scenarios.

Christi Cox has been a CTR since 1999 and has been training CTR’s in hospital based registries for over a decade. She is currently employed with ERS as Manager of Education, identifying education needs and developing presentations to meet those needs.
PCR Update
Wendy Aldinger, RHIA, CTR

Review PCR Achievements. Review status of 2018 and 2019 data. Review 2021 changes.

Wendy Aldinger, RHIA, CTR attended York College of Pennsylvania in the study of Health Information and Medical Records Administration. Wendy is the current manager of the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry (PCR) and has also been a field representative and the education and training coordinator for the PCR. Wendy is a past president of PACR and a distinguished member from her colleagues in PACR as well. Wendy has volunteered for several committees with NAACCR and NCRA.
Abstracting Heme Cases
Denise Harrison, BS, CTR

Abstract hematopoietic cancer cases demonstrating how to use the manual and database together to determine the number of primaries, diagnostic confirmation, primary site, and histology. Assign codes for primary site, histology, diagnostic confirmation, treatment, EOD, SS2018, AJCC 8th Edition TNM, and Site-Specific Data Items to case scenarios, providing rationales for each coded item.

Denise Harrison is the former Program Director for the NCRA-accredited Cancer Information Management Program at Santa Barbara City College. She is currently serving as a private consultant for hospitals and HIM companies, the California Cancer Registry, and the Texas Cancer Registry. Harrison earned her BS in Biology from the University of West Florida in Pensacola and did post-graduate studies in microbiology and immunology at Texas A&M University.

Jim Hofferkamp is the Program Manager of Education and Training at NAACCR and the administrator of the NAACCR Edits Metafile. Hofferkamp has 20+ years of experience working in the cancer registry community and has been involved in the development and delivery of NAACCR’s continuing education since 2006.
2021 SSDI and Grade Updates
Jennifer Ruhl, MS, CTR, CCS, RHIT

Explain the major changes made to SSDIs and Grade for 2021. Review the clarifications to Grade implemented in the 2021 Updates. Review the clarifications to SSDIs implemented in the 2021 Updates.

Jennifer Ruhl has been with NCI-SEER for 13 years and is the Chair of the NAACCR SSDI Workgroup. She has been involved with staging for 10+ years, including work on Collaborative Stage, Extent of Disease (EOD), Site Specific Factors, and Summary Stage. Ruhl received a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from University of Maryland.

Review the SSDI Manual and general instructions for data item completion. Discuss Schema Discriminators and their relationship to SSDIs. Gain clarity for some problematic SSDIs.

Sandra Gamber has been a member of the PACR Executive Committee and serving the membership for more than 10 years. She currently volunteers as the PACR Website Liaison and also serves on the Program Committee. Sandra has nearly 20 years’ experience working in Cancer Registry and is currently employed by Elekta as a Registry Support Lead. Sandra also volunteers as members of two NAACCR Workgroups: Uniform Data Standards; and Edits and has received 3 awards from NAACCR for Merit, Achievement and Leadership.

Erin E. Medlin, MD

Dr. Erin Medlin is a gynecologic oncologist at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, Ann B. Barshinger Medical Center. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. Her education and training includes The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
Class of Case—Why It’s Important
