Overview

Exercising leadership from any seat almost always requires  individuals and groups to make a challenging adaptation if they want to make progress on initiatives important to them and their organization. Consider the implementation of computer-assisted coding and the impact it has on coders and processes. Or the organizational and system changes required to implement denial prevention management practices or information governance for example. These healthcare industry initiatives are complex, involve multiple stakeholders and require significant leadership from everyone within an organization.

This presentation focuses on reframing leadership to think about leadership not as a role or person but as an activity. Today’s healthcare organization needs people contributing to a culture that values collaboration, courageous conversations and a commitment to do whatever it takes to achieve a shared vision. While leading from any seat is a common expression, in reality it’s not easy to do without practicing leadership and learning about leadership. Leadership is a skill that can be developed though learning and practice and is accessible to everyone at any time.

The presentation also discusses a different way of thinking about leadership that is purposeful and includes developing skills in four leadership competency areas. Discussing these competencies will help participants more clearly see their leadership edge and rather than be afraid of that edge embrace it to make progress on challenges important to them.

Participants will learn:

  1. A new way of thinking about leadership that is purposeful and accessible to everyone, anytime.
  2. Four leadership competencies required to make progress
  3. Leadership examples through two case studies
  4. How to lead from any seat and inspire others to do so too.
  5. Not to be afraid of their leadership edge
