Overview:
The objective of this presentation is to provide Health Information Management (HIM) professionals and students with an understanding of the current state of health information exchange (HIE) in Michigan as well as discuss potential roles & opportunities for HIM professionals to get involved in HIE activities at their organizations. The presentation outlines the HIE framework in Michigan and reviews several current and developing use cases. It explores ways that HIM professionals can support HIE-related objectives and initiates a discussion on the opportunities for utilizing HIE infrastructure and exchanged data to support HIM functions.

Hannah Burseth
Hannah Burseth is an Onboarding Coordinator at Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) Shared Services. Prior to working in health IT, she practiced music therapy in inpatient & outpatient geriatric, behavioral health settings. She is in the final semester of the Health Information Management graduate program at the College of St. Scholastica (online) and she completed her undergraduate studies in music therapy and performance at Michigan State University.
