Virtual Professional Practice Events
Dr. Fanny Hawkins, CPHQ, RHIA – HIM Program Director, Texas Southern University
During the COVID-19 pandemic, HIM students were not able to participate in on-site clinical experiences so local Colleges and Universities began collaborating to develop an innovative, virtual Professional Practice Experience (PPE) model that stimulates student collaboration and addresses current environmental changes while at the same time satisfying the longstanding need for students to be indoctrinated in the reality of Health Information practices. Dr. Butts and Dr. Hawkins have been instrumental in the success and expansion of this Virtual PPE and will share their journey, as well as showcase a few student projects that were completed as part of the Virtual Practicum.
