Overview: Establishing an effective query process is essential to accurate and complete coding, compliance, and proper reimbursement. This presentation will explain the purpose of a query and when you should query the provider. We will discuss effective query formats (open ended, multiple choice, and yes/no) and provide some effective query writing tips such as how to avoid leading queries. We will also cover querying for POA indicators.

Stacy joined RMC in 2006, and is RMC’s Director of Coding Services. In this role Stacy oversees all coding services performed and is ultimately responsible for the quality of services provided by RMC staff. Additionally Stacy is on the RMC review team and performs coding quality reviews for RMC clients and internal staff. Stacy has over 20 years’ experience in the Health Information Management field and has held various positions of Coder, Coding Compliance Coordinator and HIM Director. Stacy is multi-talented with inpatient and outpatient skills and a wonderful educator and trainer. Stacy was a vital part of development and implementation RMC’s ICD-10 training program and participates in ongoing teaching of staff and clients. Stacy enjoys conducting audits, researching coding issues, and providing education to coders. Stacy is an RHIT, CCS and an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer with experience in coding and auditing of ICD-10-CM and PCS. Additionally, Stacy is an active member of AHIMA and TxHIMA.
