This seminar will introduce coding professionals to the “World of HCC Coding”. Information will be dispersed regarding the CMS Risk Adjustment Program, including but not limited to guidelines, categories, documentation needs, and a high level explanation of the program. In addition, we will discuss the reimbursement cycle and how it effects the revenue cycle. We will also discuss who uses this program now and what to look for in the future [MACRA]. You will learn a good variety of HCC and how proper documentation and coding of them is vital to the overall program. The seminar will explain which code set is used, what documentation is approved, and when you can capture them. The seminar will also review some of the uniqueness of Risk Adjustment and how HIM professionals can assist in implementing a successful program.

Carl W. Costa, RHIT, CDIP, CPC, CHTS-TR, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, is the Sr. Coordinator for Coding/Training at Florida Health Care Plans in Holly Hill, Florida; for the past nine years. Currently Carl is responsible for training and educating coders and physician, audits claims for accuracy and provider appeals, and worked with Risk Adjustment. Carl was the SME and Business Lead for the implementation of ICD-10 for FHCP. Carl has served as President of OCEAN Region, FHIMA Committee Member for Legislation, Advocacy, and ICD-10. Carl has also served as President of the Daytona Beach Chapter of AAPC.
