FHIMA | CDI Impacts of Selected New FY2024 ICD-10-CM Codes – A Clinically-Focused Approach to Physician/CDI Engagement – Coding Roundtable
Live & Recorded Virtual Event
Overview
With the implementation of the new FY2024 ICD-10-CM codes on October 1, 2023, AHIMA-certified coders are ethically bound to promote their joint effort with physicians to advocate clear, consistent, and precise documentation essential to their accurate and clinically valid assignment as required by the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding.
Dr. Kennedy will discuss the clinical aspects of selected codes and their guidelines affecting Florida’s reimbursement and quality models whereby AHIMA members can confidently partner with their enterprise’s processes, technologies, and providers to successfully integrate these concepts in their workflow.
Focus areas will include: 1) Muscle wasting diseases (including cachexia, sarcopenia, and malnutrition and their contributing causes (e.g., cancer, COPD, heart failure) contributing to frailty, deconditioning, and disability; 2) The recently released 2023 AHA/ACC/ACCP/ASPC/NLA/PCNA Guideline for the Management of Patients With Chronic Coronary Disease with an emphasis on nonobstructive coronary artery disease and its associated ischemic heart disease; 3) Appendicitis with an emphasis on how MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs address these in different ways; 4) insulin resistance and its associated metabolic syndromes with particular attention to weight loss surgery; 5) Cor pulmonale and its association with right heart failure, ARDS, and pulmonary embolism), and other changes to the ICD-10-CM Index, Table, Guidelines, or Coding Clinic advice sure to interest inpatient and outpatient physicians and coders alike.
While lasting only one hour, Dr. Kennedy will stay as long as the audience wishes to answer questions. Invite your CDI, quality, malnutrition, cath lab, and executive teams to join with you as well for what will be a thought-provoking solution-oriented demonstration of HIM’s value in advocating patient care and value.
