Live & Recorded Virtual Event

Overview

The 2026 CPT® revisions bring sweeping changes to how lower extremity revascularization procedures are reported. This webinar walks coders through the new structure with an emphasis on practical application, including lesion complexity, vessel-based reporting, and combination therapies such as angioplasty, stent placement, atherectomy, and intravascular lithotripsy. Designed for coding professionals, this session focuses on translating operative documentation into accurate code selection while avoiding common pitfalls under the new guidelines.

AHRQ’s Elixhauser model factors greatly in CMS’s and the state’s quality measurement at Florida hospitals impacting reimbursement and public reputation. Totally dependent on ICD-10-CM/PCS code assignment, Florida HIM professionals and their associated quality, CDI and medical staffs are responsible for the joint effort assuring documentation and coding integrity impacting Elixhauser scoring. In this one-hour seminar, James S. Kennedy MD will explain Elixhauser fundamentals, present public Medicare data on selected Florida hospitals’ performance, and outline strategies whereby Florida HIM professionals can promote excellence through their mastery of Elixhauser theory and advocacy of EHR infrastructure essential to compliant reporting.

Sepsis criteria, such as SIRS, provide early intervention guidelines but are not definitive for diagnosing sepsis; a comprehensive context evaluation is necessary.

Sole reliance on sepsis criteria may lead to underdiagnosis or misdiagnosis; healthcare professionals should use clinical judgment and multiple factors.

Key concerns in sepsis evaluation include assessing for a dysregulated immune response, identifying the trigger (infection vs non-infectious causes), and monitoring disease progression and response to interventions.

Comprehensive sepsis querying ensures a thorough understanding of the patient’s condition, aiding in appropriate and timely care with a patient-centric approach. In addition to mitigation in clinical validation denials.

Clear, comprehensive documentation promotes patient safety, accurate diagnoses, effective treatment decisions, and ensures coding and query compliance for complex conditions like sepsis.
