On-Demand Virtual Event
Overview
Chelsea Kemp, MHA, RHIA, CCS, COC, CPC, CPCO, CDEO, CPMA, CRC, CCC, CEDC, CGIC, AAPC Approved Instructor
In this presentation we will review the importance of social determinants of health (SDOH) and producing high quality coding data. We will review ICD-10-CM coding guidelines centered around reporting social determinants of health and review clinical coding examples.
Learning Objectives:
- Review and comprehend the importance of SDOH reporting
- Review and comprehend ICD-10-CM coding guidelines for SDOH
- Review additional guidance on reporting SDOH
- Review clinical coding concepts and examples
1.0 – Data Structure, Content and Information Governance
Cheryl Ericson, RN, MS, BS, CCDS, CDIP, Director of CDI and UM at Brundage Group
Robin Sewell, CDIP, CCDS-O, CCS, CPC, CIC, is a Clinical Coding Analyst with Brundage Group
Payors are increasing employing a new tactic in the denials war, denying the reporting of a diagnosis when attributed to a “non-compliant” query. These types of denials are often classified by payors as clinical validation denials, but often fail to adhere to industry standards associated with the most recent Clinical Validation Practice Brief and Query Practice Brief. Appealing query denials requires expertise in clinical validation and a deep understanding of industry query practice guidance. This session will share both the CDI and coding professional perspectives in performing these types of appeals and how collaboration can contribute to higher overturn rates. We will share examples of different query denial trends with corresponding strategies to refute the denial. We will also discuss query best practices that can minimize these types of denials.
Learning Objectives:
- Examine industry guidance on developing a compliant query.
- Analyze the validity of payor arguments resulting in a query denial.
- Discuss strategies to refute a payor query denial.
- Describe query construction tactics that make a query vulnerable to denial.
1.0 – Data Structure, Content and Information Governance
Tonya L. Skeen, RN, MSN, CCDS, CDIP
This session will revisit the pathophysiology, statistical trending, coding rules, and treatment for patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Quiz questions and case studies are provided for validation of knowledge. Participants will leave the session equipped with information to optimize their CDI practice with the HIV population.
Learning Objectives:
- Name at least two inclusion terms for ICD-10-Clinical Modification code B20.
- Distinguish between antiretroviral therapies (ART) and preexposure prophylaxis with antiretrovirals (PrEP).
- Describe at least one situation which represents the need to query the medical records of HIV patients.
